I’ve found my thing, my travel niche. I’m addicted to a Segway tour. Whenever and wherever possible we simply love jumping on a Segway and zipping around a new city. It’s quicker than walking but you can still get into the smallest of walkways as if you were on foot.
My Segway cherry was popped on an icy evening in Amsterdam back in 2012, and since then I’ve done Prague on Christmas Day, Berlin on a freezing January day, Rome where finally a jumper wasn’t required and Vienna on a glorious summers day.

Amsterdam
Amsterdam was my very first Segway tour. It was cold. So very very cold. Then it rained. The sleet felt like little teeny tiny whips hitting my cheeks. Half the time I couldn’t see where I was going. Fortunately Amsterdam has some excellent cycle paths which is perfect for a Segway.
I wore this daggy poncho when it really started to rain. It was noisy as it flapped in the wind but it kept me dry for the most part!
Stops included getting lost in a maze of canals, the famous Red Light District, the home of Anne Frank, a thorough history lesson into the past of Amsterdam and it’s role in the WWII. How and where the Nazi regime took hold of the city and little known facts like: the current (since 1945) American consulate was the headquarters for the Deputy Reichskommisar of the Nazi’s for when Holland was occupied.

Prague
We arrived in Prague chasing a snowy magical White Christmas. In typical Roaming Required style, we were welcomed with blue skies and one of the warmest Decembers they’ve had in years, meant that a White Christmas was off the cards.
What else do you do on Christmas Day in a foreign city where you know no-one? Go on a Segway tour of course!
We whizzed around the medieval streets of the Old Town, stopping at The National Gallery, the Jewish cemetery, Old town Square, Charles Bridge, Astronomical clock and Christmas markets! The highlight was racing one another up the hill to Prague Castle while everyone else huffed and puffed from the steep incline.

Berlin
January in Europe is always cold. It was someone’s ‘brilliant’ idea to see Berlin via a Segway tour. Can’t say no to a good idea right? Well suffice to say, it was utterly freezing. I quickly discovered that my leather gloves were insufficient against a German winter and our ‘defrost’ rest break was a welcome reprieve from the cold. I lost the feeling in my toes more than once! Next time it’s snow boots and ski gloves!
Notable stops included Brandenburg Gate, TV Tower, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, the Reichstag.

Rome
Rome was my first “summer” Segway tour. Boy it was a nice change! Short sleeves and rolled up pants we zigzagged our way across Rome. It was incredible to see the sites of historical Rome such as the Colosseum, Jewish Ghetto, Roman Forum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona & Spanish Steps.

Vienna
Contemporary architectural designs combined with courtyards and wide open boulevards are the perfect combination to explore by Segway. State Opera House, Maria-Theresien-Platz and Heldenplatz were all highlights.
